I would like to officially welcome you to Hawthorn Middle School South! I am Ms. Prahl and I teach 6th grade advanced language arts, social studies, and writing. I grew up in Crystal Lake (about 25 miles west of Vernon Hills). I then attended Missouri State University where I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Middle School Language Arts and Social Studies. This is my fourth year teaching at Middle South!
A little bit about me: I am recently engaged and planning a wedding for next summer! 🙂 I am a HUGE Chicago sports fan, especially the Bears, Blackhawks, and Cubs. In fact, if you listen carefully, you can probably hear me yelling at my TV during game time! I also love to travel. In college, I studied abroad in Salamanca, Spain where I completed my minor in Spanish. Additionally, I enjoy taking my puppy on long walks and going to see the latest movie. My absolute favorite thing to do, though, is to curl up on the couch with a good book! Some of my favorites include: the Harry Potter series, the Hunger Games series, Elephant Run (which ALA students will be reading this year), and The Giver. I am an avid reader and that is something that I wish to instill my students this year: a love of reading. Your child will be encouraged to bring an independent reading book to class (language arts, writing, and social studies) every day.
I am excited to get to know my students and their families this year! I have great things planned for language arts, social studies, and writing. If we all work together (parents, students, and teacher), I believe that we can have a very successful year. For my students, I ask that you come to class prepared, with a positive attitude, and a readiness to learn something new every day. For the parents and guardians, I ask for your commitment to your child’s education and success by asking your child questions, helping your child stay organized, and by staying in communication with me throughout the year. I believe if we all work as a team, this will be a fantastic year! Please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org at any time or call me at school (847) 990-4196.
Again, I want to welcome you to MSS and to my class. I am looking forward to working with you and your child throughout this school year!
